Many schools throughout the United States rely on Rapid Communication Systems to deliver tens of thousands of voice and text messages within minutes to telephone or any internet-enabled device, including mobile phones and computers.
VELI, designed specifically to address school communication needs, supplements conventional school communications and replaces outdated phone trees and automated dialing tools that require staff resources and large blocks of time to deliver messages to multiple recipients.
However, you can have fancy hardware and telecommunications systems that will only add to the chaos without proper training and preparation. The most important thing is for people to be trained in the basic protocol of crisis response. With that in mind, VELI's web 2.0 based School Safety Management System is capable of enabling and managing your security, both physical and IT, training and creating a culture of preparedness through a seamless gateway of information.
On a daily basis Virtual Ed Link helps build stronger community relationships by enhancing:
Parental and community involvement
Student accountability and attendance
Emergency notification and awareness
Training and Preparedness
Communication to non-English speaking communities in their native language
The Need for Clear Concise Communication
According to the National Education Association (NEA), three kinds of parental involvement at home are consistently associated with higher student achievement: actively organizing and monitoring a child's time, helping with homework and discussing school matters. Increased parental involvement improves a student's education, reduces absenteeism and improves behavior.
You can inform parents of school activities, announcements and current events. The benefits are supported by the Harvard Family Research Project, which found that schools should adapt strategies to enhance parental engagement in the education of their children.
Research from the School Improvement Research Series (SIRS) shows that parent involvement in children's learning is positively related to achievement, attitude and social behavior. If parents receive phone calls, read and sign written communication from the school, and attend parent-teacher conferences, the education of their children is improved.
Information for Administrators
VELI provides one-to-many notification and communication services to parents, students, staff and other stakeholders. Conventional communication such as newsletters, notices sent home with students, PTA meetings and parent-teacher conferences are infrequent, not timely, and in many cases parent participation is limited.
Statistically six out of ten middle school parents receive information sent by the school from their students. Two out of ten parents review the school website for current information. Eight out of ten parents would like to be more involve din their children's education, and stated that information is the key.
VELI is more effective than traditional communication. Even home phone numbers are becoming obsolete to reach parents. Fifty-five percent of working parents in the United States will tell you that their cell phones are the best way to contact them, and forty-one percent prefer e-mail. With VELI school personnel can schedule and create custom messages for parents of all students or smaller groups, ensuring timely, accurate communication in the format and sent to devices that parents prefer.
